Guides ARPG Free-to-Play

The Path of Exile Anarchy League was introduced over 10 years ago in 2013 as the first Standard League in the game. While the Rogue Exiles that came along with it haven’t received much love from the community since the league has passed, the Necropolis League and the Scarab overhaul that came along with it has given players a reason to seek Rogue Exiles within their maps again.

In this guide, we’ll be showcasing a short and sweet Scarab farming strategy that makes use of some underutilized Atlas Passives to boost the overall Scarab drop rate and almost guarantee every Rogue Exile in our maps drop valuable Scarabs.

If you’d like to see Scarab loot explosions like the image above multiple times per map, then this Atlas Strategy is for you.

This Scarab farming strategy revolves around the use of the Significant Troves Atlas Passive which gives the Unique Monsters in our maps a 200% increased chance to drop Scarabs. Typically, the only Unique Monsters that are found within a map are the map bosses themselves. However, there is a simple way to add many Unique Monsters into our maps other than bosses: Rogue Exiles.

Atlas Tree For Path of Exile 3.24

The Atlas Tree we’ll be using for this strategy will be focused on increasing the number of Rogue Exiles that can be found in our maps while also boosting their power so that they can drop rarer items. Alongside this, we’ll be taking all of the Scarab passives so that we can try to focus on getting more of the most sought-after Scarabs in the game at the moment such as Ambush, Reliquary, and Essence Scarabs.

Notable Atlas Bonuses that we’ll be utilizing are:

  • Significant Troves – Unique Monsters in your Maps have 200% increased chance to drop Scarabs (This is our bread and butter)
  • Ruckus – Your Maps have a 8% chance to contain 20 additional Rogue Exiles (Our “lottery” Passive)
  • Trapping Carapaces – Scarabs found in your Maps are 100% more likely to be Ambush Scarabs
  • Singular Carapaces – Scarabs dropped in your Maps are 100% more likely to be Reliquary Scarabs
  • Crystalline Carapaces – Scarabs dropped in your Maps are 100% more likely to be Essence Scarabs
  • Remarkable Relics – Scarabs found in your Maps are more likely to be less common varieties

Required Items

Here are the required items that we’ll be using for this farming strategy:

How the Anarchy Scarab of Gigantification works

When a Rogue Exile is turned into a Giant, they not only become, well, giant, but upon death, they split into smaller versions of themselves (much like a Matryoshka doll). This effectively increases the number of Rogue Exiles within our maps since each split of the giant Rogue Exile count as individual monsters.

Map Running Process

  1. Roll your preferred map. (I’ve found most of my success this league with the T16 Estuary map, but any T16 map that you feel comfortable on will do)
  2. Apply the Anarchy Map Device mod which costs 2x Chaos Orbs
  3. Add 2x Anarchy Scarabs and the Anarchy Scarab of Gigantification into the Map Device
  4. Prepare for your map to be filled with around a dozen Rogue Exiles and occasionally 30+ (If the Ruckus passive procs)

This type of mapping experience is far different than typical ones. Rogue Exiles and their abilities can greatly vary and when turned into Giants, they can become a real challenge even for the most capable builds. It’s important that you make the most use out of the shrine buffs that are guaranteed to spawn in each map. If your build doesn’t currently have stun or freeze immunity and you’re struggling against a particular Rogue Exile, don’t hesitate to avoid them and clear the rest of the map.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Scarabs needed are cheap at the moment (1-2c per Scarab at the time of writing, not many people running Anarchy)
  • Simple to setup – Can be run on any map but ideally an open map where abilities and monsters are easy to see
  • Can be used to farm Scarabs either to sell or for use in a different strategy – We tailored the Atlas Tree to boost the rates of Reliquary, Essence, and Ambush Scarabs, but this can easily be adjusted.

Cons:

  • Requires a somewhat powerful build since Rogue Exiles can hit hard and be durable (Flasks with ailment removals, stun avoidance/immunity is ideal)
  • Ideally done with a large amount of maps. You’ll always get a lot of scarabs, but they won’t always be valuable ones
  • Not the most exciting. Maps feel rather empty compared to other strategies since you’ll mostly be fighting a large amount of rogue exiles.
  • Ruckus Atlas Passive is only an 8% chance, can go long periods of time where it doesn’t proc.
  • Focuses on Scarabs being the main source of income. This means currency won’t be up front and will require players to make sales (ideally in bulk) in order to see profits.

Overall, this Scarab farming strategy can be a fun and rather different way to play. If you enjoy collecting a large quantity of items to sell during downtime, this strategy could be right for you. If you’re the type that doesn’t like to wait around for players to buy your goods, then maybe a raw currency farming strategy will be a better option for you.
